Burgers’ Zoo counts and determines the sex of dozens of bats

The animal caretakers of the covered rock desert, Burgers’ Desert, tackled a not-so-everyday task on Thursday, 28 April 2011. Once per year all the Seba’s short-tailed bats have to be caught with a butterfly net for the annual count and to check them for gender in order to divide them into colonies at Burgers’ Zoo, the Arnhem animal park. Normally speaking twice as many males are born to these bats than females, so this will cause the sexes to grow out of proportion. After counting the bats Burgers’ Zoo will determine if a part of these nocturnal creatures will have to be separated at an alternative location in the park as just a group of males. read more »

 

Winners Future For Nature Awards 2011!

On Tuesday, April 5th the ‘Future for Nature’ Awards 2011 were presented at Burgers’ Zoo. This is an annual award of €50,000.- for the three most talented (nature) conservation entrepreneurs. Future for Nature stimulates enterprising young people, who dedicate themselves to the protection of endangered wild plants and animals all over the world. The winners are the inspiring force behind the international (nature) conservation entrepreneurship. read more »

 

The green key: gold again!

The Arnhem animal park, Burgers’ Zoo, was also able to renew the golden gradation of The Green Key, an international brand for durability, environment and socially responsible entrepreneurship for businesses in the tourism and recreation branch, in the year 2011. Since 2005 Burgers’ Zoo, together with parties like Dierenpark Emmen and the National Park De Hoge Veluwe, was at the inception of the development of the internationally recognised brand with respect to the day-trip recreation sector. From the moment of the official establishment of The Green Key in 2007 the animal park has held the golden gradation. read more »

 

Extra benefits for season ticket holders!

Burgers' Zoo has utilised the past few months to realise extra benefits to show our appreciation to our regular visitors: the season ticket holders. The renewal of a season ticket will be a lot more beneficial since 1 January 2010. In addition to this, season ticket holders of Burgers' Zoo now get 50% discount on the normal entrance fees of Artis, Dierenpark Emmen and Diergaarde Blijdorp, when they show their valid season tickets.
